Catechist Formation
Certification
The purpose of the Eparchial
Catechist Certificate program is
to establish minimum standards
for a theological, spiritual and
catechetical background. Anyone
endeavoring to share their faith
with children and youth in the
catechetical ministry of the
Ukrainian Eparchy of St.
Josaphat in Parma is encouraged
to complete the various levels
of certification. The program
utilizes the ECDD Catechist
Formation books and NCCL's
Echoes of Faith video-assisted
catechist formation methodology
tapes. The program also
incorporates the continued the
on-going faith formation of the
catechist though prayer,
retreated and renewal programs.
This program recognizes the
importance of catechetical
leadership and, therefore,
establishes standards for those
in administration as well as
those teaching. Catechists
fulfilling their various levels
of certification will be awarded
their certificates at the annual
Eparchial Convention.
Basic Catechist Certificate
ä Basic Eastern Catholic
Tradition (24 hours) provides an
overview of Eastern Catholic
Tradition and practice. Courses:
"Streams of living Water " and
"Life and Worship."
ä Catechetical Methods (12
hours) offers the practical ways
and means to creatively pass on
the faith to students. Courses:
"Introduction to the Learner ."
ä Faith Formation provides a
prayerful experience to develop
one's own personal relationship
with God. This course supports
the premise that you teach who
you are. Courses: "Discerning
Your Call" and "Getting started
as a Catechist."
Intermediate Catechist
Certificate
ä Eastern Catholic Tradition (24
hours). Courses: "Eyes of Faith
" and "Shown to be be Holy."
ä Catechetical Methods (12
hours). Courses: "Methods for
grades 5 and 6 " (or appropriate
grade video).
ä Faith Formation. Courses:
"Roles of the Catechist."
Advanced Catechist Certificate
ä Eastern Catholic Tradition (24
hours). Courses: "The Old
Testament " and "To the Ends of
the Earth."
ä Catechetical Methods (12
hours). Courses: "Catechesis:
Forming a People 1 & 2."
ä Faith Formation. Courses: "The
person of Catechist."
Master Catechist Certificate
ä Academic Degree (in Theology
or equivalent)
ä Completion of all ECDD courses
ä Annual participation in
Religious Education Conference
